The Alliance of Independent recognised Members of Sport (AIMS) held a Working Group meeting and conference from the 11th – 13th August in Bangkok, with an agenda packed with meetings and presentations. The IOC, IWGA, FISU, OCA and many more have been in attendance. The below video gives a brief overview of the conference.
The IDBF is a founding member of AIMS and in 2010 Mike MacKeddie-Haslam, as the IDBF President was instrumental in putting forward to other non-Olympic federations the concept of forming AIMS. He drafted the first constitution for the then AIMS working group and helped to establish AIMS as a formal group within SportAccord.
The AIMS Council elected for the first time during the Bangkok Conference consists of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and four board members. At the conference Mike was elected as a Board Member of the AIMS Council for a 4 year term.
This appointment will enable Mike to offer support to the IDBF and other AIMS Members´ seeking IOC recognition, as well as offering other AIMS services as part of a partner group within SportAccord.
About AIMS
The Alliance of Independent recognised Members of Sport (AIMS) was founded in 2011 by the 23 non-IOC recognised members of SportAccord and is the fourth group in SportAccord along side ARISF, ASOIF and AIOWF. The aim of AIMS is to strengthen each individual sport, combine expertise, share knowledge and maintain close cooperation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), so that the individual sport will achieve official recognition from the IOC. Three AIMS member federations in the past recent years have achieved this goal; these are the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation, World Flying Disk Federation and International Federation of American Football, with others hopefully to be recognised in the near future.
