The IOC (International Olympic Committee) Executive Board has approved IOC recognition of AIMS (Alliance of Independent recognised Members of Sport) subject to the signing of an MoU and some minor amendments to the AIMS Constitution. After the above mentioned requirements are satisfied, AIMS will receive provisional recognition and become an “IOC Recognised Organisation”. This is very good news for dragon boating and the IDBF as they are one of the member federations of AIMS.
About AIMS
The Alliance of Independent recognised Members of Sport (AIMS) was found in 2009 by the 21 non-IOC recognised members of SportAccord and is the fourth group in SportAccord along side ARISF, ASOIF and AIOWF. The aims of AIMS is to strengthen each individual sport, combine expertise, share knowledge and maintain close cooperation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), so that the individual sport will achieve official recognition from the IOC. Three AIMS member federations in the past recent years have achieved this goal; these are the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation, World Flying Disk Federation and International Federation of American Football, with others hopefully to be recognised in the near future.
